Thread starter IcyM Start date Nov 18, IcyM Member Nov 18, I had to take 1st base basically. Well, eventually the 2 left, and after about 2 minutes, 2 others joined the table. Again, I was stuck at 1st base and generally speaking, my ideal conditions are playing the dealer heads-up but the penetration on this game is very good so I didn't mind playing differently.
My question - how do I non-nonchalantly make a move OUT of 1st-base without looking stereotypically suspicious as being labeled a CC? The only thing I could think of would be to go play 6-deck shoe for a few hands, and then come back saying something like "those cards weren't so nice over there so I came back to keep you company" as you smile at the dealer.
There are no real benefits of being 3rd base if you play basic strategy. If anything the pressure is on you to play by the book. There is no benefit of 3rd base if you play shoe games where everything is face up even if you count. However, if you count cards with pitch games, only at 3rd base can you see all the cards well, most of the cards that were played. Even the cards you can't see you have some idea what they were.
Only at 3rd base can you very accurately judge the count. Technically 3rd base lowers the house advantage very very slightly as well for counters. If you don't count, then this isn't an issue.

It is exactly like this for blackjack too. Then the last person would be third base. The dealer shows an ace and asks for insurance. What you didn't know was that the other 3 guys at the table all had face cards card totals 20 for all 3 other guys.
So actually you took insurance when the count was negative -- a bad idea. If you were 3rd base, then the count would be less than 4, making it so you wouldn't take insurance. Plus, when you see everyone tucking their cards in you know they have over 17 anyway. It's the 8th wonder of the world, but what secrets lie below?
